Whether you live in a city, a suburb, or a rural town, we all need clean, safe water to drink. But for far too long Veolia, the world’s largest private water corporation, has exploited communities across the country and around the world, putting the affordability, quality, and reliability of our water service at risk. We’ve seen what can happen when corporations take over public water systems: rates skyrocket, infrastructure is neglected, health and safety concerns get sidelined or ignored, and communities pay the price. It happened in Pittsburgh. Ten years ago, after years of Veolia’s mismanagement, families were left with lead-contaminated water while Veolia walked away with millions. But we know that together we can stop corporations from exploiting our most essential resource. We’ve seen communities come together and take action to protect public water. Just last year the people of Pittsburgh made history by overwhelmingly passing a ban on the sale or lease of their water system to private entities. We all need water. No one should profit from it. Demand Veolia North America stop its reckless privatization schemes.
