Jameson, a beloved 2-year-old Golden Saint Berdoodle, was shot and killed after he slipped out of the front door of his Los Angeles home during a welfare check, according to local news. His guardian had been speaking with police officers when Jameson stepped outside. Moments later, an officer reportedly fired four shots. After the shooting, Jameson’s heartbroken guardian collapsed beside him, holding him and sobbing as he took his final breath. Just a short time earlier, they had reportedly been celebrating together. That joy was shattered in an instant. Jameson should never have died simply because he stepped outside his own home. The officer appears to have drawn his firearm almost immediately after the door opened, escalating the encounter with devastating and irreversible consequences. Please sign our petition urging LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell to launch a full and transparent investigation, ensure appropriate accountability if misconduct is found, and introduce stronger training and policies so animal companions are not needlessly killed during police encounters.
