Tell NJ: End Pet Shop Sales of Puppies, Kittens and Rabbits!
Across New Jersey, pet shops are still allowed to sell puppies, kittens and rabbits supplied by commercial breeding operations. Behind the polished storefronts are animals who are covered in urine and feces, confined in barren cages and suffering from untreated illness. Some arrive at pet shops trembling, weak and passing bloody stools, while countless healthy animals in shelters and rescues continue waiting for homes. New Jersey lawmakers have introduced A2049/S434 to prohibit pet shops statewide from selling cats, dogs or rabbits. The legislation would still allow stores to provide space for shelters and rescues to promote adoptable animals, provided no payment or compensation is exchanged. Please sign our petition urging New Jersey Senate President Nicholas P. Scutari and Assembly Speaker Craig J. Coughlin to advance A2049/S434 and end the retail sale of puppies, kittens and rabbits in New Jersey. Animals should never be condemned to suffering simply so pet stores can make a profit.
